Finding Solid Ground

There are times in life when the ground beneath your feet doesn’t feel solid, fixed, or secure. It’s a scary feeling. It’s as if the rug’s been pulled out from under you and you’re left to drift through life, desperately seeking a footing.

Last week I felt that way. Though nothing circumstantially changed, I couldn’t think straight or get my heart to rest. To even draw a thought to the forefront of my mind was like grabbing an object from a raging tornado.

But, thankfully, it’s not in from my mind that I gain a solid footing; it’s through the Word of God (Hebrews 6:19-20). It’s only in His Scriptures, through the blood of Jesus, that I have a solid, fixed, secure place to set my foot, rest my heart (Psalm 61:1-3).

The Mind Left Alone vs. The Mind Submitted to Christ

You see, my mind when left on its own, defaults to overdrive. It likes to obsess and analyze, worry and fret (Romans 8:6). I try to numb my mind by carelessly scrolling througFinding Solid Groung | theEvenif.comh Facebook or Instagram, zoning out to a show (or close to a season of a show) on Netflix, or by filling my time with busywork. All of which leaves me even more undone, restless, and anxious. But, thank God, my mind does not have the final word. When I commit to the reading of what God has to say, the Holy Spirit guides me (John 16:13), equips me (Hebrews 13:20-21), and transforms me into a new creature (Romans 12:2). He changes my default setting. (Hallelujah!!)

The Holy Spirit is ever faithful to draw me to my Savior (John 14:26). He gives me the hunger and thirst for the only thing that satisfies – Jesus Himself as He is in His word (Matthew 5:6). He calls me to Himself and shows me who He is, for “blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!” (Psalm 34:8)

So, whether or not you’re in the midst of a tornado (no one is exempt from them), the only solid ground you’ll ever find is the one provided by Jesus in His word (John 14:6, 2 Timothy 3:16-17, Isaiah 40:8, Psalm 18:2).

I too find myself getting caught up in anxiety. But since I have been tuned in to Christian radio, I find myself less so. I can be worried about something and my mind catches a lyric in the background which I know God sent me just for that moment. ❤️
